Manipur women’s football team wins 20th Women’s National Championship
Manipur women’s football team defeated reigning champion Orissa to claim 20th Women’s National Championship. Team defeated Orissa convincingly by 3-1 score to get home their for 17th time at the Golaghat Stadium in Golaghat, Assam.
An elated Bembem, who captained the side to the triumph told www.the-aiff.com moments after the final whistle that though the win looked facile, the young girls of Oriisa, mostly U-19 and playing for the first time, showed verve and a lot of promise.
“It was a good win. I am really happy to end a fairly good campaign on a high but more importantly I would like to point out that the future stars who played in Orissa colours today have a lot of potential.”
“Coming to the champions, Manipur had the measure of the game from the first whistle. These girls are too experienced to falter. It was a nice experience for the youngsters, I’m sure,” Barua added.
