Kila Raipur Sports Festival, Rural Olympics in Punjab Will Not Have Bullock-Cart Race
Kila Raipur Sports Festival is being organized starting today and will end on Feb 1st without the Bullock-Cart Race. In a judgement passed by SC in May 2014, it had banned exhibition or training of bulls as performing animals. The court ruling had earlier banned the Jallikattu festival.
Disposing of a bunch of petitions from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra regarding bull-taming sport ‘Jallikattu’ and bullock cart races, the apex court bench of Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Pinaki Chandra Ghose upheld a July 11, 2011, notification.
Sukhbir Singh Grewal, an organiser of the event, said, “Though we already have filed an appeal in the court seeking the ban on bull races to be lifted, the hearing for the same will be in February. So all other events except the bull races will be held.” reported Indian Express.
Another report published in Hindustan Time suggest, Bullock-Cart Race will replaced by Horse-Cart Race.
