Jessy Joseph, Shinning Star of Indian Athletics
She is only 19 years old but has already made a big impact at Asia level in athletics and now headed for IAAF World Junior Championship. A young prodigy from Usha School of Athletics has already won many Indian and International medals.
In 2013 Jessy Joseph, clocked an impressive 2:08.38 to win gold in South Asian Junior Athletics Championships. In 2011, Jessy Joseph had amazed experts when she competed with the seniors in the 800m race at the 51st National Open Athletics Championship in Kolkata. Some said she was another Tintu Luka in the making after clinching silver with a personal best time of 2 minutes and 12.88 seconds. Her coach, the legendary P T Usha, affirms she might be even better.
She missed the gold medal by a whisker in the recently concluded 16th Asian junior athletics championships in Taipei City. In 800 meter final, Ryoko Hirano representing Japan and Jessy Joseph representing India passed the finish line almost at the same time. The photo finish decided that the gold medal went to Ryoko with the time 2:06.75 and Jessy placed second with the time 2:06.7
