Indian Oil Lifts 119th All-India Beighton Cup
Indian Oil beat Punjab National Bank to clinch 119th All-India Beighton Cup at the SAI Eastern Centre ground here on Thursday. Deepak Thakur from Indian Oil scored a penalty shootout title finish with a 5-4 (3-2 on penalty strokes) winner.
Sumeet Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Thakur converted the penalty strokes for the winners while Damandeep Singh and Mathiaz Minz were successful for PNB.
Beighton Cup is one of the oldest field hockey tournament running till date. Instituted in 1895, it is organised by Bengal Hockey Association and used to be held on natural grass at the Mohun Bagan ground on the Maidan in Kolkata (earlier called Calcutta) in India and for last few years has been held on Astro Turf (artificial grass) at Sports Authority of India (SAI East) in Kolkata.
